I have smoked Cannabis for many years for my anxiety and social disorders. I have arthritis and take Vicodin for it. To me Cannabis is a much better all natural medicine that really helps me cope and can stop panic attacks from becoming severe. It helps more with the pain of the arthritis than the vicodin does. I was given serequel for my anxiety. It has so many proven bad side effects I stopped taking it. I hope the people who matter in helping pass this bill will understand that cannabis is a very beneficial medicine with so many un-tapped possibilities with medical research. It has unlimited medical potential. Thank You to All who are trying to get this bill passed.

Here in Hawaii there are a bunch of bills being deliberated on regarding the state's medical cannabis program. One bill deals with the establishment of cannabis dispensaries (or "compassion centers") - which are currently not state sanctioned here. The state Senate passed a decent bill and then the state House passed a mangled version. These testimonies were submitted to Senate when they were re-deliberating the House version. (My own testimony is in there too.)
I post this to exemplify the standard form for submitting written testimony to state legislatures. You'll note a wide variety of format, but also a basic structure. May it serve the movement in North Carolina.

I also suffer from degenerative disc disorder, causing unbearable discomfort in my lower back. I also suffer with many uncontrollable muscles spasms and ticks. I am sure i am starting to develop arthritis in many places of my body, as I have trouble standing sometimes, my joints hurt to bad to allow me to walk any lengthy distance. And im only 18 at that. I have insomnia as well. Please please please i wish they would pass this thing because the narcotics are not doing there job. we have more problems out of them then good with all of these people selling them and such and there addicting factors as well. NC we wont this and we will not stop fighting until we get it and im sure everyone is right along with me

god bless you all .we have quite a struggle ahead.this is my first post,i've been too afraid to share ,but today I logged in,so here goes. I am a 48 year old homeowner and taxpayer, but am unable to medicate in my own home for fear of legal trouble. I am a local food bank and animal rescue volunteer. I am disabled with psoriatic arthritis and fibromyalgia, and am presently prescribed morphine tablets[just like oxy],percocet, tizanidine[ a multiple sclerosis muscle relaxer] valuim, prozac, xanax, along with methadone for low cost pain relief. ALL THIS FROM THE SAME HEALTH[?] CARE PROVIDER sactioned by national and state authorities. ALL could be replaced by allowing responsible adults ,who know more about what helps them ,to make their own medical choices. the side effects of my presently prescribed drugs are slowly killing me . elected officials, are you listening??
please show compassion for your fellow n.c. residents and act now!!
in my lifetime, i hope.

My name is Margaret and I have BiPolar Disorder w/mixed states. The Lithium I take causes an underlying skin condition that has made me have 3 surgeries and has left me terribly scarred in many places. I have tried the new drugs, the old drugs and am finally telling Lithium good-bye after 10 years because I can't take it anymore. Was on Seroquel but doc changed to Geodon, withdrawl right now is terrible! Was put in hospital, new doc gave me Topomax. Made me very ill, wasn't able to eat or drink, was put in hospital twice for severe pain, so sick I couldn't get out of bed. Took for 3 weeks but took 6 months to get over. My reg doc couldn't believe it didn't kill me. Have been on over 12 drugs and the only thing that helps is MMJ. Friend of mine has same thing and controls her ups and downs with this disorder with MMJ. Am going to try the same because I just can't take the pain, the skin condition, the side-effects, the withdrawls, anymore. I'll just have to take my chances with LEO because this just isn't working anymore. Am being monitored by doc and therapist and husband so will be watched carefully. Hopefully will not have be on 'scripts anymore.

Margaret,
Get yourself some hemp lotion. It is usually found in a clear bottle with a big green leaf on the front.
It is excellent for skin disorders. A friend of mine cured her ecema with hemp oil and fine oat flour mixed together. Lots of hemp oil with a little oat flour to give it a creamy texture.
Hope this helps your skin problem. Take hemp seed oil and it moisturizes the skin from the inside out, eases digestion and elimination, and makes your skin have a youthful glow.
Enjoy!

Hello my name is Samuel Mendez. I'm a Lcpl in the marines, and I suffer from ptsd. I suffered a gun shot wound on August 10 2010. All I want is help and I'm not receiving any as I was promised. All they are doing is making my problem worse by yelling at me all the time and twisting the truth. I try being honest as they tell me is the right thing to do but they end up putting me into more trouble. All I ask for is help to help me overcome all my stress and obsticals. My wife and 2 week old son see what I go through and its sad for me that's not what I want for my family. Please take the time to understand what I am saying, thank you for your time.
Sincerely Samuel Mendez

I am a 48 year old recently retired RN. I had a gallbladder surgery and ended up with a bile duct injury and have had to have several recontructive surgeries. I have constant Pain, Nausea and vomiting. I would like to use MMJ to relieve these problems. Have tried many prescription medicines and they all have horrible side effects. When you are nauseated it is EXTREMELY hard to swallow a pill which you then have to wait on to work when it may not even stay down.So if it were legal my Doc has said he would be the first to prescribe it to me. Everytime I eat or drink it causes problems and the MMJ just alleviates the pain, the nausea and gives me an appetite so I can eat to keep my strenght up.The narcotics were killing me I was a zombie. This plant has been around for centuries and could have so many uses!! Would be willing to talk to anyone on a one to one basis regarding this important issue.

Dr. Baiko,
Thank you so much for standing up for those who would benefit from medical marijuana. I have juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, osteo arthritis, fibromyalgia, migraines, severe restless leg syndrome and for 42 years, pudendal nerve entrapment. I just had surgery for the pudendal entrapment and it will take up to two years to recover. My pelvic floor muscles spasm. All of this makes it hard for me to sleep. I am on opiates for all of these problems and as a concequence, have severe constipation.
My sister had bone cancer and she took opiates for it. She had constipation as well and her colon ruptured because of it. She went into a coma and later died. I am terrified of opiates and afraid that the same thing that happened to my sister will happen to me. Medical Marijuana would solve all of the above problems and wouldn't cause constipation.
I sincerely hope that someone is listening to our problems.

I am a 45 year old male and have been suffering with Hep C since 1996, I have so many symptoms form hep c I just can't list them, some of the more important are inflamation, nausa, pain, nerve problems and of course the destruction of my liver. I was under the care of a doc who took the advice of one of the main doctors in north carolina careing for hep c patients at Boman Grey hospital, I was sent there when I went parilized from Hep C. There I explained that I used marijuana for my symptoms and beleave that it helps, He said I agree and have seen first hand that patients who use marijuana survive where those who do not don't have as much luck, so for several years I was getting better, then my doc passed away,, and so did my ability to use marijuana. My new doctors for some reason or another either agree but can not allow me to use marijuana medically or just say no, any how I have gotten worse steadily instead of getting better like I was, I suffer much nausia and was told I could not be given marinol unless I had cancer or Aids, It just does't add up,, here I am now in the last stage of liver failer and marijuana will stop the action but if I use marijuana to save my life I will be taken off of my other meds and go straight into withdrawl and surly my body now can not go through that its just not strong enough now,, the thing is I know that marijuana was healing me, I know first hand, I felt it, and as soon as I stopped I felt it go the other way quick,, Medical Marijuana cures more symptoms then we can ever imagine, I am afraid it isn't going to be legal here in north carolina soon enough to save my life and I just don't have the money to move to another MM legal state, There should be something there to help me now and there just isn't , I may not be the best speller but I am a human and I would get better with medical marijuana, I have run out of time waiting on it to become legan here in north carolina. With all my heart I wish things were different at least where I could show people the difference marijuana would make for me, Life or death

Dane, my heartfelt thanks for your testimony on how MMJ helps to heal you. I'm with Jason, find a new doctor that understands the benefits of MMJ. Like you said,it's life or death and surely I would choose life over death, my doctor be damned. Peace to you my brother.

My dad passed away when I was only 10. Throughout school I suffered extreme sweats and nervousness. After being hospitalized for rapid heart-rate, test results showed I suffer from severe anxiety and depression. After suffering damage from a mild car accident, I was diagnosed with severe arthritis and a cyst in my right shoulder. Due to being so young (20), doctors will not prescribe me any medication to help with my pain. Though I have been prescribed all sorts of medication for my mental illnesses such as Alprazolam, Diazepam, Etc.. I'm tired of being an addict and forcefully pulling myself away from such pharmaceuticals.
To this day, I'm stuck at home on a disability income with the dreams of a future which I never see happening until medicinal cannabis has been legalized in the state of North Carolina. Cannabis is my medication of choice and no harm has come from it.
