Welcome to the site Spive. I'm afraid that HB577 died in committee, the rats. Anyway, you will find lots of wonderful people on this site who will help you with any questions you may have concerning mmj, nc politics, any particular illness you may have etc. We have open chats on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights at 9pm. Your views and questions are welcome there. The chat is not logged, nor saved nor monitored. I hope to see you there. Once again, welcome to NCCPN.

Unfortunately HB577 didn't make it out of committee and it will be 2013 before we can try again.

Hi Spive and again welcome to the site. You see everywhere that HB577 is dead. That really is a shame, but, there is still work to be done and we have to do this work to get ready for the next bill and/or election coming up. Would you consider working on the letter to e-mail your friends and to help us get tonnage to take to our reps when the time comes. It is a simple project and since we have no petitions at the moment to sign, the letter is as simple as clicking on a petition. If you are interested, please check out the topic of spread the word and help make a difference while we are waiting. It is as easy as clicking the button and sending an already written letter to your friends and family. It is an easy project that WILL make a difference when the time is right. Until then we will collect the letters and get them to where they need to go. Thankyou in advance for helping on this project. Beccie

Hi, Jaberwocky here. I've been a member of the NC Coalition for a few months now and am learning a lot. My wife and I are retired military living in Smithfield. After retiring from the AF, I was working in Raleigh until last December when I left to be full time caregiver for my wife. She served multiple assignments in the middle east and retired in 1995. Last year she began to feel sick and was subsequently diagnosed with acute axonal neuropathy. I left work to be full time caregive. I am 60% disabled due to back injuries as part of military service in SE Asia. We are glad to be a part of the movement in our adopted state NC and originally hail from KY and ID. I have lots of free time, but am not very mobile as she is still not able to walk very well and has short term memory impairment from all of the drugs administered during her 8wk stay in UNC Neurological hospital. I hope to meet other members, especially retired military in the near future. Best wishes and God Bless. Keep up the good fight and we will overcome.

Hi Spive,
The info that I have been able to dig up is that a bill needs to be approved by the house committe and then sent to the floor for discussion. If it is approved in the House, it is sent to the Senate committe and the process starts again.
The committe chairmen at both state and federal lever did not allow the bills to pass through committee and go to the floor for open discussion and vote.
This is a tried and true maneuver to stifle causes and debate that the chair, vice chair and/or powerful influences don't support. It happens at both the state and federal level. If the chair is not from your district, there is little you can do except exert pressure on your representatives to influence the chair. It is VERY hard for the little guy to influence the outcome, but hey we're americans and we won't quit. It isn't in our DNA to give up. Get involved and use your vote!

Hi Jaberwocky, Beccie here. I am so glad to see some new members on the site. I have only been away for a couple of days and see new names and read new stories. I see Spive and OEF all new names to me. Sorry about shorting the names, but, it is my disability of memory that would cause me to do so. First, not only do I want to give you all a warm welcome, but I also want to say from the bottom of my heart thank you all for serving our country and willing to give us your all in kee;ping us fee here in the good ole USA. I also want to say that all of us meet here on the NCCPN site because we have a lot in common. We are all either mentally or physically impaired and we are tired of taking toxic medication. Can I get an AMEN from the group. If you are looking for a project that you can do with your computer, please let me know. There is a letter campaign that I can tell you about and it is just like clicking on a petition. You will also find the latest news on this site for bills and what is happening.
Again, welcome to all of you and thank you for being here. Peace, B

I have recently been introduced to your site by Billy Cates. I am not only a patient that would be more than willing to help lobby for the cause of medical canibis, I am a retired nurse. At this time I live on an IV morphine pump and would give my right arm to be able to legally medicate with canibis and get rid of this horrible pump. If yourself or someone else would please contact me to tell me what I can do to help further the cause I would really appreciate it. I am retired as I said before and have more time than money on my hands.
Thank You,
Jenny Barker

Hi everyone. I'm incredibly new to the NCCPN, and fairly new to the plant itself. I'm a college student in western NC, born and raised in the Piedmont, who's been dealing with aggressive Crohn's disease for going-on 4 years. I've been through major and minor surgeries, and due to my condition I've had to take medication that severely compromises my immune system and leaves me at greater risk for all infectious disease and even many types of cancer. I have to say that cannabis has been the most effective supplemental treatment I have encountered thus far, and it's great to find that there's a group of people who are fighting to let us use the medicine that really works.
Thanks, everyone!
