Over time I have noticed the ebb and flow of members as the time for a new Medical Marijuana bill comes and passes. When a new bill was due to be introduced there was an excitement you could feel as you read the posts in the forum. A host of lurkers kept NCCPN up on screen for the latest news on the Legislative happenings. Members were proud to speak up & out for MMJ.When the bill was killed due to "harassment" there was a short time of predictable anger. Then folks began to drift away since there was no way for the Medical Marijuana laws to be changed this session in the Legislature. Just like the dream had died forever. Folks , this is politics we are playing. If we lose we keep coming back. Each time we come back we must be stronger if we hope to change the laws about MMJ. Now is not the time to Slack off the push to educate folks about MMJ. We need to be out there as much as physically possible asking folks to call their legislators now and when a new bill is introduced. We need to keep up the pressure with new people calling the Legislature asking for MMJ every day of the year. Our call numbers were enough to turn heads in the legislature this year. We were definitely noticed, enough to have the order sent out to shut us down before our support grew. While enough calls were made to be noticed there was not a large enough segment of the population calling to put fear for their jobs in the heart of our politicians. We have until 2015 to build NCCPN into a force to be reckoned with. To reach this goal NCCPN needs you to spread the word in an organized fashion with other like minded folks in your area. Attend a rally when we come to your chapter area. See what we do and the fun we have.We are in the midst of a population of people that largely believe as we do. They want and need direction. Get out there and let them know there is an organization fighting for MMJ in North Carolina, NCCPN , so they can join us in the good fight. Poll numbers are on our side. Let others know we exist so they can join too.
Chapter areas were set up to make organization in NC easier. My chapter leadership duties take approximately 4 hours a month. This includes our rallies. A chapter leader is taking on the responsibility of building a NCCPN chapter area into a viable organization. Chapter leaders need to set up meetings on a monthly basis. Leaders will try to provide opportunities for other chapter members and/or non-members to join in some positive actions for MMJ. Leaders are responsible for what happens or not in their chapter area. SO WHERE ARE YOU GUYS? I think most chapter areas have a chapter leader. You guys need to get out there and lead. Or you WILL be replaced with someone willing to be a part of history. I plan on holding a chapter leader meeting in Raleigh and Hickory so each of you do not have as far to drive. I will set the dates if there is any response from the current chapter leaders. My mother and 93 year old grandmother support medical cannabis. The times are changing.

Tom is right on with this message. Things are moving. The NC Democratic Party chose Randy Voller as their chair and he made Cannabis the priority issue for us.
Meanwhile, an attempt to return the party to the old (non-effective) blue dog ways failed in Raleigh.
What you probably don't know is that former Rep Patsy Keever from Asheville has replaced the 1st vice chair.
She is now number 2 in the democratic leadership...Th ey are ramping up support for medical the TOP issue for the democrats.

Tom is right. Time is slipping away. Before you know it, the next bill will have been introduced and we will need the support. We will not be able to rally the people to our cause over night. The time is now. We should be talking medical cannabis everyday.
I had this talk with my 83 year old mom and it went surprisingly well. She now wants to plant some in her herb garden!

Congrats on moving up, President Tom! I knew you were the man for the job!

I've still got you guys in my thoughts, just been dealing with some pretty bad situations here. I haven't abandoned you, just haven't been able to get my head into anything. Hoping things will get better soon and I can get back into it again.
