Read the RCDJ article about the resolution "not up in Smoke"..Then read it again..until you know enough to ask questions like those below...
Call the NC Democratic Party at 919.821.2777 and ask if the resolution in support of the Medical Cannabis Act has been mailed to all elected officials yet..if not, when could we expect to see it and will there be news of it.
Also, call the Charlotte Observer at 704.358.5000 and ask them if they know if it has been sent. Tell them you saw it on U-Tube where David Parker said it would be done when the legislature returned.
Same story at the News and Observer..919.829.4500..Tell them you read an article in the Richmond County Daily Journal were June Mabry said the resolution was live..IT WAS JUST BEING BLOCKED.
Everyone asks: what can I do...Well, here it is. DO IT
Remember to mention the VA Directive..(VA 2010-035). Tell them someone you know needs to have it and has been denied treatment at the VA....Better yet, if this was you (Randy, Josh, Darrell, etc.)..call and make them aware of the VA turning you away..
Lastly, call Speaker Thom Tillis and ask if he knows of the resolution..or has it been sent to his office?

Have barely taken time to read the discussion pages. This is just a note to let everyone know that we are attacking on many fronts and don't have time to report all progress here. Just know that we are still much alive in the General Assembly. Much of the conversation is not yet ready for prime time news, so when we get together, we can try and put it all into a general plan of attack for the lobbying day next month. This will be coordinated by Rep Alexander and he suggested some way to identify ourselves. I suggested the T shirts on the website..pick a color or let us hear other ideas.
I am requesting a meeting with the Speakers Office after things settle down somewhat. Will report on that later.
Most important for me now as a democrat is supporting the mini-revolution. If you missed the last SEC vote where David Parker (See video "perryparks/democrats) where David responds to me that the resolution on cannabis had been dropped and he committed to making this happen. Well, when we arrived, the "resolutions posted were those same old BS..no cannabis". This is not the main reason that the Democrats refused David's 'requested resignation' from the governor and other elected members, including the council of state.
We refused to accept his resignation..It took four votes to convince them we were adamant that he stay. This has caused a fight in the party. If you or anyone you can approach can make a donation to the NCDP, it may be possible to really become a party of the people. Call or email me ASAP if you know anyone who can donate anything before Jun 5. IMPORTANT!
Also, I have a treasurer report. We have just over $400 that has been donated along with what we already had. I plan to include a report of any money that is spent or donated.
We continue to gain 2-6 new members almost every day. Encourage all to fill out the short member application...power in numbers.
Please posts any relevant information on the front page comments for this update...BTW, the conference info just posted will be attended by me and anyone else interested. Need to register if you have time or plan to attend..

After returning from Tuscon, Dr. Baiko has offered to provide us a medical forum of sorts. More later. What he found when posting his message was that he had to register again..so
What we realized was that he was not a REGISTERED MEMBER! PLEASE TRY AND REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE..IF YOU CAN'T, PLEASE REGISTER.
Whenever we accidentally lost the website domain, there was a three month waiting period during which I enlisted name-snap.com to recover nccpn.org. As a result, many folks now visit the site thinking they are registered members. As a barely literate computer user, I would not have realized it.
Our impact is proportional to our membership..ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP..calling, writing, visiting, and recruiting members..anything YOU can do to help the cause. Our website activity reflects our credibility..and we are becoming a force to recon with..and that is thanks to all of YOU. If this letter motivates you to do more..then it is worth writing.
If you read the above paragraph, and you live anywhere within reach of Iredell County, YOUR HELP IS URGENTLY NEEDED. Kirk Sherrill, a loyal and tireless fighter in the Cannabis campaign has chosen to really light up the cause..He is running for the House in District 84. This is a great sacrifice and he has spent his money and time..for all of us. He is also within reach of winning. His campain cards have a medical canabis leaf posted beside his information..HE IS RUNNING ON THE CANNABIS ISSUE..If you can help, especially if you can travel on Tuesday to a voting place to pass out his cards, we really need to make an all out effort for him.. please contact me or Kirk Sherill at 704-953-2223 to see how you can help. I traveled to Statesville, along with Darrell this past Saturday, and passed out cards with him..It is important to show this issue can be a winner.
As you know from the posts, Connecticut becomes the 17th state when the governor signs the legislation. 17/50=34%..I didn't major in math, but I do remember that this is more than one third of the states that will have legal medical cannabis laws.
We have other very exciting news that is yet to be confirmed. stand by.

The SEC (State Executive Committee) of the Democratic Party made history yesterday. We reelected David Parker as Chair. This was a dirty fight about WHO controls the party.
We upset the apple cart yesterday..THIS IS A NEW DAY FOR THE DEMOCRATS!!!!
Now, when we pass a resolution, IT WILL BE ACTED UPON..if you get my drift. The party power had decided to forego our resolution again...NO MORE..
Power to the people. More Later..

Incredible; that is about the only word to describe the "Seventh Clinical Conference on Cannabis Therapeudics" held in Tuscon this past weekend. Your North Carolina Delegation, composed of Dr. Kevin Baiko (Musician Extraordinaire), (Dr) Lee Porter, NP, and his wife Liz along with myself. I have asked Liz, who writes like a journalist, to write an "after action report" for the event and will post when she finishes it. There will be much more later and I encourage all to google information on the event..especially Patients Out of Time who sponsored the event.
I titled this posts a "turning point". This is based on the "mood of the event" by those present. It was a record attendance and when asked for the person who traveled the greatest distance to attend, it was a toss up; Siberia in Russia or Australia. Australia was the winner. There were two fact filled days with some of the most able presenters I have ever witnessed. Dr. Baiko will describe the proceedings much better than I so look for his column on the website later. BTW, I saw a couple of computers with our website up during the conf..it was highly praised for activity and content.
There is so much happening that I cannot put it all into this one post. The most exciting has to do with the Speaker's office. As you may recall, prior to the Asheboro town hall meeting, Thom Tillis and I spoke briefly. His comments were to the effect that the alarming spike in narcotic deaths must be dealt with and the relative safety of cannabis compared to them needed attention. In other words, we need to find a way to make this happen. I called the office after that meeting and was told to contact the speaker's Chief of Staff...Charles Thomas.
I had not yet made the appointment, and you may imagine my surprise to find that he was on the front page of the paper after an affair with a lobbyist was disclosed in the N&O, and he is NO LONGER employed as the COS. The lobbyists was also terminated from her employment. Mr. Thomas thinks he was targeted by an operative in Asheville over a local issue....hummm...
I called the speakers office yesterday and unexpectedly, Joe (?) answered the phone. I identified myself and he recognized my voice. We spoke for nearly 20 minutes. I can only tell you that this is Divine Intervention. I could not have arranged the sequence of events that has been happening to our advantage; it will become evident as we proceed. He is working to set up a meeting with us and the speaker. By the way, when I was told to contact Charles before his termination, I did not realize that he shared an apartment with the speaker.
The petition is approaching 12,000 signatures. We will be taking it with us when we meet with the speakers office, along with some of the many comments. As you know, it is not legally binding in NC, but it still represents nearlt 12,000 people who took the time to respond..a politician ignores numbers like this at their peril.
I have decided to violate my democratic party rule that elected party members "must not do anything to assist the opposition". Kirk Sherrill, a brilliant and outspoken member is running for the House of Representatives as a Republican. I have informed him that I will actively campaign with him..not as a democratic party officer..but as the president of nccpn. Anyone else who lives in his district..please do everything possible to help his campaign.
Speaking of campaigns..look for any opportunity to address questions about the medical cannabis act in any public settings where they respond to questions from the audience. Then report their answers on the website. We must get more politically educated and make this argument "LOUD" in the public venue.
WE DEMAND CHANGE TO THIS INJUSTICE.
